DIONYSUS all i know is everybody loves me
Dionysus stood at the edge of the lake as a star began to fall. He had seen many shooting stars over the years and to him they always felt like a good omen, as if they brought fortune with them from the skies down to the earth. An expectant smile graced his features loosely as he lifted his head to the sky, green eyes tracing the comet's path, but it soon became clear this was no ordinary comet. The darkness of night seemed to recede as the star fell, the surrounding lake and meadow brightening as if time was winding backward through the hours of the day. But as the star drew ever closer to the earth (they had never fallen so close to the mainland, always arcing across the sky as if they had somewhere else to go) the vibrant colours of the lakeside and its vegetation began to fade, bright white light washing out and over the land. Dionysus kept his gaze upon it as long as he could, a distinct lack of fear in his eyes even as he braced for impact. Finally the falling meteor disappeared behind the trees that surrounded the lake and his eyes slipped shut to protect against the last burst of light that radiated outward in place of an actual crash landing. A regal, powerful voice came then - though not as regular sound traveled through the air, it seemed the announcement had been broadcast straight into one's mind, and not just his but the minds of all his species (or so it seemed). Dionysus sat up alert, ears pricked to attention though the goddess's voice made no sound on the physical plane. As a pup his parents had been devoted to several deities, and though he hadn't spent that much time being religious, he had cultivated a healthy respect for the powers that were. Now, hearing one speak in the flesh was definitely an experience Dionysus had never expected to have. "Almighty Chaos," he began sincerely, pale green eyes closed as if praying, head bowed in reverence. "If it pleases you, I ask for nothing more than strength to serve." He was a big wolf already, and strong by nature, but what if he was stronger? And in all honesty it did feel a little overzealous asking for a gift of strength from a goddess he barely knew - named Chaos, of all the deities - but Dionysus felt strangely like this was a thing he should do, as if he was being directed by the hand of something like fate. | image credit furlined@da |
