Had you asked Shri Kanti’s family who would be most likely to claim a territory with the intent of starting a pack, their answer would not have been her. Too aloof and private to want to deal with the inner workings of a pack, they would say. And yet here she was, trotting through the hills with a single-minded purpose. The overcast sky had finally opened into a light drizzle around noon, but the weather was nothing to a wolf born and bred in the cold reaches of the north. Her pace hardly slackened as she continued to scout out the land, looking for anything of interest and filing it away for future use. It would not due for an alpha to not know her own territory. The many promising signs of prey simply furthered her desire to see this land as her own.
Satisfied with what she had seen, Shri finally came to a stop beneath a copse of sparse shrubs and rocks. She gave a vigorous shake beneath the relative dryness of the new spring leaves, rain drops flying off the guard hairs of her coat before the fur settled back into place. A pleased light glinted in Shri’s green eyes. Yes, this place would do well for her new home. Hard work awaited her, but Shri had never shirked from difficulty in the past. There was no reason to start now. What had begun as nothing more than a whim--a desire to see the world and perhaps find her own way--had slowly morphed into a fierce desire for a home to call her own, with her beholden to none but herself.
A seldom seen smile pulled at her black lips. Ears pinned and eyes closed against the small amount of rain that made it through the branches, she cast her head back, a commanding howl leaving her throat a moment later. Long and full, the pitch remained constant for a few seconds before smoothly rising, falling and finally trailing off into an end. Head lowering once more, the excited tension slowly drained from her body. Tail wagging from side to side, her tongue lolled out in an open mouth grin. The Dove Hills were hers.

Often he had looked down from the mountain passes surrounding his land to gaze upon the Dove Hills in the distance. The land was openly exposed, which was why he had no interested in obtaining it for himself. The mountains surrounding his Akeli Lake were natural walls, acting as deterrents to keep challenges and weaklings out. But even if he thought very little of the gentle hills, he knew them well. They were adjacent to the pit that was the Crater; his childhood home and birthplace. So even though these lands were not his, he traveled through them with confidence.
White pelt stuck out sorely against the land that was beginning to green. Even though his muscles ached terribly, his heavy frame glided effortlessly over various scattered boulders and the inclines of the land. He had spent previous days scaling the more difficult passes of his mountain home in order to further condition his body and maintain his muscular form. A scent in the winds had distracted him from his task, and since then he had been determined to confirm his suspicions. The howl that broke the silence of the land only moments before confirmed what he had assumed, someone had claimed the Dove Hills.
The large male halted his trek at the climax of a gentle hill. Her scent was in the air all around him. If he wanted to he could easily sleuth her out, but that might be seen as confrontation. He was not interested in that, at least not without reason. A simple introduction, simple socialization from alpha to alpha was all he was here for. Keep one’s enemies close…
His gruff voice cried through the air, a howling baritone greatly contrasting with the previous climbing pitches that where sung before. He called to her a greeting, announcing himself in a very polite, and very kingly, manner.

The steady patter of rain around her was comforting, but it did little to muffle the deep voice from reaching her ears. Shri narrowed her eyes, gazing out to where the howl had come from. It was not a challenge, but it was self-assured nonetheless; an acknowledgment from a neighboring alpha perhaps. She briefly scented the air, lips thinning in displeasure. And one that apparently found it necessary to enter her newly claimed lands. The pleasant tones to the greeting did nothing to ease her suspicions. Meetings between alphas (if alpha this wolf was) were seldom innocent things.
She loped away from the relative dryness of her shelter, the rain doing little to hamper her as she followed the new scent to a low hill. There was a male there, his white coloring causing him to stand out even more than her. Perhaps he was from the north, as Shri originally was. She slowed at the crest of the hill before halting, green eyes studying the stranger intently. He was taller than her and more powerfully built compared to her lean-muscled form, but that was hardly anything new.
"I am Shri Kanti," she spoke firmly, head held high, "the alpha of these lands--as I'm sure you well know." She had never been one to mince words, having no patience for games and talking yourself in circles. If this wolf entered her lands, he would answer her questions or be forced to leave. "State your name and business here."
ooc: Bleh, short post. :/
