An early spring breeze flitted through the forest and rustled the newly budding leaves above. The sky was lined with gray clouds hinting at more rain while the ground was still moist from the night's storm. Quietly, a black and brown marbled male made his way toward the lake, a grimace on his muzzle as each of his steps mads a slight squish from the mud. Luckily he had already done his hunting for the week before the rain had come to avoid his footfall making as much noise, but as each rodent ran for cover as he passed he resisted the urge to go after them, knowing that they had quite the advantage in hearing him before he heard them.
With a disgruntled growled at the surrounding forest he picked up his pace to a trot as he got closer to the lake. He had grown up around the lake and didn't known anything different and knew his kin had long since left. As he approached the glossy lake he slowed back to his walking pace and lowered his head to the water's edge. As far as he knew he was alone as he always was and as he started to drink the first drops began to fall from the sky.

Zahrah had already been at the lake, enjoying the water before the coming rain. The sky was a dark and brooding reminder of how wet and dangerous the first season of the year could be. The storm the night before had blown the area about, debris from trees scattering the shores.
As the female came from the water, she noticed a shape distant on the shore. A strange black wolf stood on her horizon, his head low to the water.
She stole into the edge of the trees and carefully picked her way through them, taking care to avoid twigs. She did not wish to alert him of her prescence just yet though her intention was not to startle or surprise him. She finally evened with him and stepped slightly out of the forest to watch him, ears forward and tail quirked slightly to one side.
As Zahrah stepped forward to approach himm, she stepped on a twig. It's snap was subdued by the sheer fact that it was soaked from the night before. It didn't however, stop her sharp gasp or the startling of the birds in the tree above her.
Fool, he knows you're here now. She mentally chides herself. A sheepish grin crosses her face as she pauses to consider what to do next. She stood, still wet from her swim, new beads of moisture forming on her head and face from the new onslaught of rain.

Ghost's ears flattened against the rain as he lapped up some of the cool liquid but he couldn't shake the feeling that something was watching. He glanced around while keeping his head down but did not see anything. He let out a paranoid growl and allowed his hackles to raise as he went back to his drink. But it wasn't long until there was a muffled snapping sound followed by birds scattering and making a racket. Showing his fangs he turned around and faced the female who triggered the bird's panic.
He growled at the other wolf, how dare they sneak up on him! His tail rose to show the "intruder" that he was boss. "Who are you and why are you sneaking around?" he snarled and took a step forward in an attempt to be intimidating. His temper had gotten the better of him but he refrained from moving even closer from that first step.

His growl is what first told her he knew she was there. When he turned to snarl at her she instantly raised her head and tail higher in a symbol of self confidence. She didn't want a fight, but she wasn't going to let herself be bullied.
"I'm sorry I didn't mean to startle you, I wasn't sure if you were friend or foe", she said softly as she stepped forward. "I am called Zahrah, I was swimming up shore from here when I spotted you."
He looked so angry that she had snuck up on him and she didn't know a way to fix it. She gave a smile and a wave of her tail to emphasize she hadn't meant anything, before sitting and looking anywhere but at his face. "This weather has been absolutely miserable, hasn't it?"
Even now the rain was growing heavier and she was hard pressed not to flatten her ears to prevent it from soaking inside them. She was going to sit and wait though, to see how he would react further. She didn't ask his name, and pondered for a moment if he'd even offer it after her words of appeasement.

The male watched and listened to her words as she demonstrated that she was not afraid of him. This caused him to pause it had been a while since he last encountered another wolf that he was not prepared for a calm stranger. As he thought over the situation he watched as she sat and began to talk about the weather, his hackles slowly relaxed and lips dropped back over his fangs but he remained tense.
Zahrah? There was a moment of awkward silence before he lowered his tail "Ghost" he responded simply before looking away "Yes, the new season does that." he kept his voice mostly monotone with a slight growl to it but was no longer threatening as he tried to dampen his frustration. Futily he shook rain from his coat and moved toward an old pine that leaned over the water in an attempt to get out of the rain.

Zahrah watched him silently as he moved to shelter, though the pines might not be quite the same as a den or cave. She had no idea where to suggest to go to keep dry. She personally did not care either way. She loved the water, the rain included. Even still, she wandered over to the tree and shook herself heartily.
She had just been roaming freely and had honestly not expected to find anyone here. Upon entering the area she hadn't detected signs of other wolves. That didn't, however, mean that no one lived or lurked here.
So, what brings you to this area? I'm just wandering, myself. I love a good adventure! She was so boisterous about it, quite excited really. I wonder if anyone lives here...
