Sommerset was in the grip of spring. The grass was vibrant emerald interrupted by the sparkle of ruby red tulips and pink quartz daisies. Things were all sorts of colors, flora and fauna alike. If Laska was into that sort of thing he might say it was pretty. He kinda of regarded everything apathetically. He knew that in a few months it would all be gone and the landscape would be as white as his fur was at that time of year. Made you wonder why flowers bothered to bloom. Spending so much energy making seeds and pigments to color petals bright. Only to have the winter snuff it all out. Maybe he was being pessimistic. If Laska were to be anything plant related he'd probably be a pine cone. Not very spectacular even when alive and just some husk when dead. That's how he saw himself, really.
He'd been traveling for some days and the farther he walked the duller things got. It brought him a bit of comfort. Out of some weird spitefulness all the pretty birds and butterflies and bees had started getting on his nerves. Laska just secretly hated anything positive. Maybe it was the same cold that had bore him that chilled his heart. At this point now his paws touched snow with each step. The dusting of white powder always marked an approached to Everbane.
Laska was born just beyond this range in the forest beneath it. He'd passed through this strange yet familiar land and every memory attached came back. Very few were good, most haunted him like ghosts flitting among the tress. It was pretty, though, Laska was into how everything was frozen and dead. He tried to remember the reason why he'd left to begin with. The forest was quiet and uneventful save for the presence of a few wolves. He didn't see them but he knew they were there. He had no qualms with them. He didn't covet this place, he was just passing through.
Above the tree tops he could see the peaks of Everbane looming. When he was a pup he hadn't dare ever stray this far from the place he and his family nested. When he was an adolescent and first saw the mountain they had entranced him. Up until then he had thought of himself as something large. Smaller than the trees, yes, but larger than many other things. Everbane put things in perspective. He'd felt insignificant ever since.
Here too he noted the presence of some wolves. He brushed past bark heavy with the scent of a group. He supposed they had claimed this place. This jagged collection of ice covered peaks belonged to them. Laska now stood in a clearing. In the space of the canopy he stared up at the white sky wondering if it would start to snow.
Maybe he should stay here. The thought of leaving the snow and returning to grassy meadows made him melancholy. It was a strange notion he could miss this place. He did still think of this place as home, though and that's where the heart is. Maybe he'd finally find it.

Dmitri wanted to embrace the very essence of spring in his most vital of beings. Spring was life and an awakening from a long slumber. There was no other time more flourishing with potential and adventure than spring time. The sun was warm against his exotic coat, but the breeze kept the energy and vitality in him. There was truly nothing more beautiful than the land during this time...
Because it was so flourishing with life, Dmitri felt it was the perfect time to walk across the land. It was in his blood to be nomadic-he just seemed to struggle with staying in one spot for extended periods of time. Maybe the animals he commonly hung out with was rubbing off on him. Dmitri started his journey at the break of morning. By mid-day, he had managed to find himself coming to a more lifeless area. Oh yes, he was approaching that mountain. It was like a mole on this island. He couldn't imagine what kind of characters such a cruel and bitter environment could birth. Dmitri was content with leaving it at that and started to turn away when his nose caught a scent. Dmitri walked up to a tree, its bark being splinted from excessive chewing, and gave it a sniff.
Oh dear.
In his short time of being alive, Dmitri knew one thing about the mountain wolves; they were independent. Too proud, too greedy, too violent or whatever other reasons there could be, they tended to live alone. So when he smelled the mark of claiming land, it sent a shiver down his spine. If this really was what it smelled like-a claim of pack territory, it could cause quite a stir in the land. Dmitri couldn't help but sometimes confuse wolves with war mongrels at this point. He had been burned and had his paws bloodied by the workings of an alpha or two, and those experiences bled into his every day views of the common wolf. Although he had never actually befriended a mountain wolf before, he had seen one in action and knew they could be scary. Of course, he understood not all wolves would fit a stereotype like the one he was casting, but he assumed the ones who didn't would value their secluded life on the mountain the most. If the worst of the worst of the mountain dwellers wanted to form a pack, what force could stop them?
Dmitri was so lost in thought, the scent of the other wolf approaching took him off guard. He blinked a couple of times and washed the sullen look from his expression, painting a smile on instead."It seems the land is very much alive this season. Would you agree, my brother wolf?"

The swivel of Laska's ear signaled his being aware that he had company. The scent of this male had drifted to him ,vaguely, since he'd gotten as far as The White Forest and so he wasn't take by surprise. This calm was a new feeling as, usually, another wolf would've been enough to scare Laska away. For whatever reason, however, he did not wish to relinquish this spot. It had once been his home, after all, and Laska probably felt more comfortable than this stranger.
The voice reached him, rich and gruff and full of polite formalism. Brother wolf, though? Perhaps this brute was old. The old ones seemed to me more about the unity of the species. Younger wolves were only concerned about what they could take from one another. Laska was one of those younger wolves but he had nothing to lose and nothing gain so he was neutral to the thrill of conquest.
His pink irises slid to the corners of his eyes as he beheld this wolf. He felt himself smitten almost immediately. Not old at all, he seemed around Laska's own age. He was handsome and Laska was always one to appreciate a handsome face. His fur was rich in Earth hues, comparatively complex to Laska's own which was devoid of color.
"Brother wolf?" Laska purred slyly, approaching him, "What a quaint thing to call me, lovely."
The pale wolf chuckled. He had moved nearer but kept his distance. Not everyone was open to his advances.
"Why're you lurking around Everbane? Looking for me?"

The wolf before Dmitri was tall. It wasn't menacing as the other artic-colored giants, especially the ones of the mountain Dmitri was snooping about, but tall nontheless. His eyes were a brilliant and unusual pink...that was about as much uneasiness one could get from just looking at him. However, his words and tone was what really threw Dmitri for a loop.
Lovely? Of course, he had heard others call his coat that, but not him. Not complete strangers. With that tone...and that look. One ear kind of hooked itself to the side to search for a different way of hearing things. His head tilted along with it, but he quickly returned to-almost- balance and gave a sheepish smile. "Ah...well, thats just how I view others I guess. We had to have been molded from the same material...or at least by the same molder." His molder was nature, and the spirits it encompasses. And whether a wolf was good or evil, big or small, Dmitri felt that they began the same way he did. Why wouldn't they all just be pups from the same great spiritual mother in the bigger picture?
"Thats one way to look at it." Dmitri continued, clearing his throat and looking to the mountain. "I was just walking around the land and enjoying spring. Of course, friendly wolves are always welcomed to join me. I have to build up my patience for the not-so friendly ones before they can join, though." Dmitri

Laska listened barely and just looked more than anything. This wolf's reaction was to die for, absolutely adorable. He seemed good a wolf that, perhaps, had yet to be corrupted by Somerset and all its perils. His eyes seemed almost bored. Like, when they looked, they begged excitement. Despite this, behind them, Laska could see some spark of something.
The tip of Laska's tongue hung from his mouth in a slight pant. His paws sunk into the snow as he started in on a half circle around this male. He only wanted to appreciate him from all angles. Whatever mold he was talking about that the both of them were cut from had certainly produced something beautiful. It was an interesting, thought: whatever had created the both of them had created all creatures who called Somerset home. There was a time, when Laska had been rather young, when he thought about things like this and felt moved. He really was like all wolves, they were all the same no matter where any of them hailed. It brought him this comfort that there was a comrade in every wolf. Apparently, however, they both knew this to be false.Being cut form the same mold didn't stop brothers from warring.
But Laska was a lover, so these matters seldom crossed his mind.
"Hmm..." the tone rumbled in Laska's chest as he continued his circuit.
Laska's shoulder brushed against the brute's side as he came around to face him once more, much closer than he had been before.
"What am I? Friend or foe?"
Laska's smiling pink eyes stared across into the other's amber ones. He was tall. How lovely.

The arctic wolf didn't seem too thrilled with Dmitri's words. Yes, he was aware he was a bit old school. Of course, his views didn't mean everyone was treated like a brother (or in some twisted families, they were and it just wasn't a good thing), and they didn't unite the different wolves, but he held onto the notion strong. Perhaps only because he hasn't let a wolf in his heart long enough to corrupt him.
Dmitri noticed the wolf didn't even try to mask that he was checking him out. Dmitri was...flattered, maybe? Mostly a little embarrassed, but he pretended this was perfectly normal. Who knows? It might be normal among wolves. He didn't really hang out with them much. On top of that, he spent most of his life in seclusion of the rainforest.
He wasn't sure if the hum was of approval or disapproval. Dmitri was about to ask something along the lines of "Do you like what you see?" When he felt the shoulder brush along his side in a way that made him nearly lose his balance for whatever reason. The wolf was bold, but he wasn't aggressive from what Dmitri had seen. He would just have to keep an eye on him.
"You seem very...welcoming. From that I would say you are a friend. Though I try not to affiliate with gangs. Too much trouble for a loner." Dmitrri gestured to the mountain. "Know anything about that?"
