serran er rai It didn't take a keen nose or great senses to know a storm was rolling in. The sky was dark, a wall of steel grey encroaching slowly toward the meadow, and the air had a tangible electricity within. Serran's narrowed eyes were raised to the sky for one heartbeat, two, then lowered back to the grasses. Even they shifted unsteadily, anticipating the coming downpour.
It might seem odd for an alpha to be wandering away from his pack lands, but Serran was neither a typical alpha nor particularly mindful of guarding his land. Firstly, there was no actual pack for him to feel obligated to protect. Second, he probably wouldn't feel obligated anyway, unless there was a known, untoward threat. Shore Woods was a pretty self-sufficient land, and there weren't many dangers to guard against.
Well, he might as well take advantage of the approaching storm. While he was loathe to admit it, and had thus far ignored it, there was a power within him that he was tempted to tap into. Just to... to see what he could do. What he was capable of, what danger now swirled within him. It was fire, and though he was worried about what he could potentially do, he was more willing to experiment here, before the rain, than he was in the Woods.
Sighing deeply, Serran glanced around, then seeing he was clear, slowly lowered himself to the ground. He scratched some grasses into a pile, placing it between his paws. Frowning, he focused on the grasses, trying to channel... something. Will it to smolder. Burst into flame. Become a mini bonfire. But nothing happened, and after all of forty seconds of effort Serran swatted the grasses away with disgust. Stupid goddess and her stupid games. At least he knew he wasn't going to accidentally start something ablaze. Sucking in a breath, Serran flopped over onto his side, eyes half-lidded. He was almost completely hidden here anyway, and the storm would come soon enough... Then, he would go. But for now, let it come.

Mara Aislin The point is I reached. Not that I fell trying. A gust of wind caused her fur to bend the opposite direction of natural and that of the grasses followed in the same disturbance. Inland storms were much different than that of the coastal ones. It seemed almost safer, but letting appearances dictate that was fool hearty. Nothing in nature was truly innocent or more put, harmless. Not that she had much experience with the inland. All she knew was that she should probably keep her pace and keep going West. Eventually she would go to the Northern and Southern regions in search of other alphas, but for now she was going to start farthest from home. Backtracking seemed an better option in her way of thinking. Taking pause, Mara didn't really know what to expect from all of this and honestly she wondered what this travel would bring. Especially along the lines of this...gift that Chaos decided to bestow on her. A funny notion. Why would the Goddess of Chaos do something so nice? The woman had to question the motives just a little. Inhaling enough for her chest to twinge her eyes glanced around as the heavy air left her lungs. Only when she saw a peculiarity did her head ever so slightly tilt in observation. Was that another wolf? Standing there in silence she could barely believe what she was witnessing. Was he mad...at the..grass? " What in the world is that man doing?" Not only did he swat it away after tearing it up, but he flopped on the ground like a pup throwing a tantrum. Maybe he was gathering pile? Like the elderly wolves who lost a few pieces of their minds and collected rocks to make as "friends". Slowly her skull inclined toward the other side observing further. He wasn't getting up. Did he fall asleep? With a storm on its way, that's absurd. Then again so is being angry at the ground. Common sense would say to move on, which her paws had already started stepping away to follow in that action, but her good conscience demanded her to hold firm. Expressing a sigh her head lowered slightly to the ground as her ears remained relaxed. Quietly moving along the grasses, her short black form eventually made it to the russet mans front end and though approaching an unknown loony was strongly not advised, she didn't much care. Her face was already a canvas of scars, what was a few more? Gently she aimed to nudge his nose with hers before speaking up with calm tones. Slightly noticing that he was warm. " Sir, though you can make these decisions, you are a bit warm and the rains won't help. Might it be wise to find shelter..at least till the brunt of the rains lets up dear?" If he struck at her or not, she wouldn't bolt away so easily. Kenren

Still irritable, Serran didn't react when he felt the presence of another wolf approaching. The odds of a random blitz attack weren't good enough for him to bother turning his attention in his present predicament. He wasn't even sure why he was so angry, which was a familiar sentiment for him. He didn't even want to be able to do the things Chaos had said he was now capable of, so why was he so angry that he couldn't make it work? Maybe it just irked him that it made him feel inadequate. It was a game he should be able to figure out, but he didn't even know the rules. He'd wanted to be stronger, but this was far too destructive a power. He was forced to acknowledge the other wolf when a nose came out to touch his, briefly, and gold eyes peered up into bi-colored blue and green. Twitching his nose once unconsciously, he listened to her words with some amusement. She did look older than he was, though outward appearances wouldn't show it. He was large for his age, and she was short, and it wouldn't be hard to at least say they were similar ages. But she spoke with an elder's care, and Serran couldn't remember every being spoken to that way in his life. Grunting, Serran pushed himself up to his feet, not willing to actually address a strange wolf from the ground. He shook out his pelt as rain began, lightly, to fall. Then finally, he addressed her. "Don't worry, I'm not sick or anything. The heat is its own, um, affliction, but the rain won't affect it either way." He didn't really want to go into how much of a freak Chaos had made him, even if it didn't actually affect his daily life. It was just the knowledge that he might someday hurt someone on accident that kept him on edge. If he couldn't use it, he couldn't control it. Not for sure. He took a moment to take the female in from the different vantage point, smelling salt on her, not so different from his own pelt. It was different, likely from a different coast, but it was becoming a calming scent to him. He may have been raised inland, but Shore Woods was quickly becoming his home. "Sorry to worry you. My name is Serran," he offered by way of apology, and he had the idle though that he'd become a lot more used to this casual give and take of conversation than he used to tolerate. Maybe that was what they called growing up. ----------- baylentine |

Mara Aislin The point is I reached. Not that I fell trying. Well it was always a good sign when there wasn't a set of teeth suddenly digging into your muzzle. So, this encounter was already a good one in her short list of acquaintances, but then again even if he had it most likely wouldn't have made much of an difference. At first, he seemed a little slow of thought as if he had already dozed off and had no motivation give much rise to the meddling woman's concerns. Standing there in pause was the only reason she was able to witness the larger individual finally settle in a different stance. More so focused on the man who was unusually warm, she paid no mind toward the drizzle that was starting to take place and instead she just observed the mannerisms. Perking her ear in interest she faintly lifted a brow. ' Don't worry, I'm not sick or anything. The heat is its own, um, affliction, but the rain won't affect it either way.' Giving semblance of a chuckle she gave a nod. " Ah, I see, so that is what you were doing." Her muzzle gestured toward the general direction from his previous fit toward the grass. She had suspicions that Chaos had not only just been talking towards those in her region alone, but the entirety of the land. It didn't take a genius to put two and two together, but she said nothing more on the fact. Though she was curious due to her own situation and experience with recent events, it was not her business to pry. ' Sorry to worry you. My name is Serran.' Settling her haunches on the damp earth she curled her tail around her paws as she spoke up. " Oh no, my apologies for my simple meddling. However, it's a pleasure meeting another friendly soul. My name is Mara, thank you for being accommodating." Feeling the wind rush past her face and whistle in her ears, a chill ran through her causing her to shake herself out before glancing upward. They were rather dark, but nothing to be worried over yet. Lowering her gaze back to Serran she spoke up once more. " Do you know of the current status of pack lands and locations? It's purely innocent I assure you." Kenren
