Honest to God I'll break your heart
Tear you to pieces and rip you apart.
"Who the fuck are you?" There were no words to describe the grin that overtook the shadow's maw; thick, black lips pulled back to reveal a set of sharp, ivory fangs, the color startlingly bright against his massive, dark frame. But the cold, twisted intent behind the grin was not the reason a chill swept down Kinan's spine— no, the chill came with that grin that was traced with a color so red, a color matched by the irises of his calculating gaze. The black fur around his maw was thick and matted with hot, wet blood that dripped and peppered the ground beneath his massive head. At his flank, the ebony wolf boasted a number of allies, other wolves that paced impatiently in the background with lowered heads and snarling lips. "Do you know who's land this is, mutt?" Kinan was a rather intimidating wolf on his own, a large frame with fur the color of the dark earth he stood upon now. His gaze was a cruel amber, and while that gaze could fool the hearts of many, there was no mistaking the dark and greedy nature of the wolf that now faced down his first real challenger. When he received no answer, his confidence returned, his head lifting as he pushed his chest out a bit further. "It's mine." He pressed, his typical tone already returning. "I've laid claim to this island, and I've transformed it into something better. Something stronger. No force will be able to challenge us. We will be the strongest around—"
"This land is broken." The challenger's voice was cold and sharp, so much like the granite cliffs that made the Skyfalls. Taking a step forward, the black furred wolf bared his teeth again, this time in a sneer rather than bemusement. "Before you came, there was peace. We had no worry of a power hungry main-lander coming in and murdering our pups for sport. No worry of crossing paths with blood-lusting wolves and no worry of being driven from our homes." Crimson hues met with amber as the challenger stopped before the Alpha, lifting his head just enough to be eye level with the male that seemed so intent on keeping the land for himself and the fools that followed him. Hot breath wafted over Kinan's senses, breath that was sticky with the scent of blood. His gaze wavered, briefly, breaking eye contact with the ebony beast to glance toward the large jaws that parted with each word. Tendrils of saliva stretched between his teeth, stained red with the blood of his recent kills. As Kinan lifted his gaze back to the challenger, he realized then just how large this male was, even compared to him. His shoulders were broad and his frame was large, thickly lined with muscle and rippling with a power that was mirrored in the tension of his unwavering gaze. "You claim our people are spineless. Cowards. Week. You claim you helped us to become strong, taught us that life isn't fair." The dark one continued, unflinching at the slight curl of Kinan's lip. A silent warning. "You're right.
"... Who am I?" The question hung for a moment, and Kinan and his pack remained still until the stranger continued. "I was a father. I tended to an orphan whom saw his entire family slaughtered when your wolves chased his family from their den." Crimson hues flickered dangerously, and Kinan felt his heart twist briefly with fear as he recalled the family of five that had been mangled and strewn about the den for refusing to leave. The pups had been spared, raised by one of their own females to bolster their numbers. His gaze flickered again, however, as he picked the two wolves out of the shadows that shifted and flickered behind the challenger, he recognized them to be two of the three. The third was somewhere behind him, as she had remained loyal— or afraid. "And then he was careless. He made a mistake, as children so often do." His voice dropped, cold. Venomous. Quiet. "He scared off one of your kills. And you hunted him in exchange for his mistake." There was a level of anger that rose in the stranger's tone, his head lifting so that he was now looking down upon the Alpha. At the pup's cruel fate taking to the air, a series of snarls and jaws snapping rose into the air, no doubt stemming from the siblings of the pup that now stood behind the one that threatened Kinan's throne. "And he wasn't the only wolf to fall because of your delusions and tyranny. Every soul at my back has lost someone. All thanks to the great leader of the Shadepaw."
He continued. "You want to tell the world who ran Kinan from his own turf?" The black wolf shifted, circling Kinan leisurely. "Tell them it was the wolves that called the storm. Tell them it was the spirits of those you killed. Tell them it was the souls of the oppressed. Tell them it was the Stormbourne." The final word was sharp and strong, something unbroken and firm. "I will hunt you to the ends of this land, Kinan of the Shadepaw, and I will come for you in the night. I will come when you think you're strongest and I will come for your heart. We have already spilled the blood of your best hunters. I can only dream—" His muzzle lingered close to Kinan's ear. "—that you seek a fight. You owe it, to this land, to repay it with your blood for all the disgrace and turmoil you have brought to it's soil. And I will be the bane of your existence until that debt is repaid."
"My name is Atervis." A pause, and that twisted grin. "Run, pup. Run."
