THE HISTORY
Legend has it that the first wolves to come to Somerset, wherever they hailed from, landed at Shore Woods and made it their home before their children branched out to form the population of the land now called Somerset. Whether or not the legends are true is hard to say, but it has been passed down from generation to generation of Shore Woods wolves for as long as anyone can remember.
The pack at Shore Woods, never called anything but that, has always been a rather enigmatic bunch. Most wolves are raised to be territorial, but aside from a few exceptions over the centuries, the alphas of Shore Woods have welcomed any and all with open arms, whether they planned to stay for a day or forever. The open nature of the pack stems from the way it has always been part of the journey to Sharktooth Island - any coming to or from the island are generally met with cordial hospitality by the wolves at Shore Woods. Food, water, shelter, and wound treatment if necessary are all standard fare. So it has been for centuries, and so forever it shall be.
The clan of Er Rai has led the Shore Woods pack for at least a hundred years, or so the stories go. Such a span is impressive indeed, but who knows if it is the truth or simply bolstering. Regardless, they have followed the edicts and traditions of their forefathers - all except one.
The story is not really a long one to tell. Irial Er Rai was a firm but respected leader, a stickler for tradition and obedience but incredibly devoted to his pack and the members therein. Shore Woods prospered under his guidance. It was in his fourth year of life that he took a mate - a lovely girl, though perhaps too sickly, looking back now. But he loved her deeply and truly, and was therefore nearly destroyed when she died giving birth to a single son - a son she named Jory, just before she passed.
Everyone noticed the change in their alpha that day. He was not the same kind-hearted man he had once been, and he was noticeably hard on his only son, who had a penchant for getting into trouble. Tensions came to a head when there was a raid on the woods six months after Irial's mate's death. Irial led his pack against them, and it was a hard-fought battle. In the end, they succeeded. Upon returning to the den, they found his son and his watcher, a well-loved elder male named Nikolei, missing. After a wide-scale search, they found the boy, and the ugly cost of his wandering from safety. Nikolei was dead because of the boy's disobedience.
From then on, no one can remember seeing Irial treat young Joker, as he was known, with any fatherly love. It was not blatant abuse, but the boy became more and more restless, withdrawing even from those who knew him best. No one was surprised when the heir disappeared at the ripe age of two.
Irial sent no one to find him, and, indeed, acted as if it was no problem at all. It was around this time that a bruised and battered bunch, the size of a full pack, washed up on the shore. They were in terrible shape, most of them, and the pack had their hands full just keeping some of them alive. While they welcomed the hospitality, they were very tight-lipped as to what had happened. Not knowing much about the politics of the Island, the Shore Woods wolves did not ask further. After a time, the group went on their way.
It was nearly two years later that Irial and a few others quite suddenly took sick, and wasted away in a matter of weeks. There was terrible fear in the pack, worry that the disease would spread and worry that they were losing the alpha who had led them so strongly, if distantly in the last few years. Finally, Irial passed away. There was talk of going to find Joker, but no one knew where to start. He could be anywhere.
It was fear of the disease and a lack of leadership that caused the pack to fracture. Arastan had tried to hold them together, but there were many who chose not to follow him. He took who he could and they made their own way, for a time - he would not risk sickness for those who were left. The others scattered, watching, waiting. For what, most of them did not know. It was the first time, to anyone's knowledge, that Shore Woods had been uninhabited.
It was in the spring, a season after his father's death, that Joker returned to the land of his blood. Those who stayed close are beginning to return, and the fragment of the pack Arastan had gathered are likely to return soon as well. Things are tenuous, however, and it remains to be seen whether or not Joker is capable of holding his father's pack together.

Name: Brier Age: Three years Rank wanted: Hunter Second Choice: Scout Mates/pups: None Link to Bio: linkSo, I just had a little plot idea! I feel like back in her old pack, Brier would have been a hunter because she's small and light, so she isn't as hampered by the snow because she wouldn't have sunk too deeply into it. And, since that's what she's comfortable with, she would have wanted to be a hunter here too. But, maybe because the environment is so different, she's just terrible at hunting in Shore Woods. And, since she's kind of hard on herself, Brier feels kind of bad about that. So, maybe Joker would suggest for her to make the switch to being a warrior, since she's actually really strong despite her size. Anyways, just a quick blurb! Let me know what you think!
