Chiyo
Pretty old golden eyes knew what she was seeing. Oh, she knew exactly what she was seeing and the wolf went off cackling in delight. Nothing! That was what graced her old eyes. That was the problem, after all. There was no one right there when she wanted, and her mouth wrinkled with distaste. Well then, if they were going to avoid her - the old crone - she would just poison them all. It was what she had done all her life, and that would be that!
"Did you hear that?" Smooth voice was tinted with age, but she called out defiantly and birds fluttered around her. It caused the old wolf to jerk, but her white face softened thoughtfully. Would something just fall dead out of the tree? Well, that would be convenient. So she tried it again, merrily, as if she were a mere up again - after all the effort that she had put herself through. "I'll kill you all for ignoring the sick old crone - how else are you supposed to live if you aren't bowing down at the feet of your elders?"
The announcement was firm on the air, inclining her head as she walked a few more steps. Yes, she was sure everyone just anticipated their death. Why, when she had been young, she assumed she would never make it past four. Ah, but she had been a lovely wolf back then. She had been beautiful and beyond, and Artero had been her sun in the darkness of her world. Yes, she had been lucky enough to have a male in her life, someone to look after her. Now, now he was up with the spirits. Like spitting down on all the buffoons that was bugging his little Chipmunk.
The sigh rolled with the reminder, and the arrogant female pranced. Her walk was graceful, more haughty than someone at her age should have been. This was her own, she wagered even if her eyesight truly went she would be subjected to no loss of memory. She would not forget the landscapes she favored. They would not so quickly escape her.
Nose filled the scent of something that caused her stomach to rumble, but she ignored it. There was a secondary scent she favoured, and her paws carried her rather blindly through the trees. There was no stopping her, she avoided the sand most of the time. She warily avoided where the demons in the water might come rip her up in pieces.
"Little wolf, little wolf, let grannie come play..." Singsong voice was pleased with herself, her stride making her seem younger as she followed the scent of the wolf. "Come out, come out dearie."

a t e r v i s Honest to God I'll break your heart Tear you to pieces and rip you apart. Long strides carried the pitch black frame of Stormbourne's revered leader through the thick underbrush of Sharktooth Isle. His expression was void of any emotion, not a crease or glimpse revealing what was on his mind. At the moment, however, it was of the rare occasion that Atervis wasn't recounting some horrific, lurking memory that hung in the back of his mind, worn on his psyche like he would wear a scar across his belly— something with a mix of regret and a flash of twisted pride. Instead, his mind was alight with the tasks for the day, in particular, the things needing to be done before the cold front hit the mainland. If there was one thing Atervis loved about his land, it was the fact that he never had to see a lick of snow. the dry season could take it's toll, but fortunately there was plenty of fresh water to last through the dry spells when it was an issue. Regardless, he wouldn't be surprised if a few wolves got stupid enough to try and escape the cold, only to wash up on a not so deserted island. It had happened plenty of times before—
If it was in Atervis' character to groan, he would have. Particularly when the crooning of a particular old bat reached faintly twitching ears. The first sign of her came with the fluttering of wings and the panicked cries of the avian creatures overhead. Chiyo had a tendency to waltz about the island like she owned the place, though he took full responsibility for her spoiled tendencies, particularly when he did nothing to stop them. And why should he? Chiyo was invaluable and a long time member of the family, and had it not been for her incessant nit picking and chattering, he might have never been convinced to rise up and fight back against Kinan and his little pawns. To her credit, he owed her that much. Still, it was like teeth on gravel, hearing her singing weaving through the trees to oh-so-sensitive ears.
"Chiyo." So he was a little blunt, his tone unamused. one of his ears flicked as he lowered to sit on rear haunches, staring down a black snout to the smaller frame of the elder before him. He'd really not been hiding, despite how painful interacting with the salt and pepper'd dame could be. He did hold her in high esteem, despite how generally annoyed he seemed to be while in her presence. When she did pull into view, Atervis' expression was less than impressed, crimson hues rather flat as he stared back at the female. He'd been hoping to get back to the falls as quickly as possible, particularly since the Seekers would be back with the night's kill sometime soon, and as tempting as the scaled beasts that basked in the sun were, he'd seen two too many wolves dragged into a watery grave at the jaws of such creatures. He wanted to sigh. in fact, his entire body moved like he was about to, but his breath caught and stuck. Sighing meant she would win. It would mean she knew she'd gotten under his skin and— well, he couldn't have that, now could he? "A bit far from the usual path, aren't we?" The Alpha rumbled, regarding her. "... Don't tell me you've somehow lost your way?"

Chiyo
It was difficult not to offer the solemn wolf a goofy look of amusement when she waded her way through the brush to meet him. Of course he looked unimpressed, he always did! Such a grump clearly needed a woman in his life and why he was taking so long, the female would never know. Her solemn eyes blinked, knowing that winter would be approaching the island with time coming around, it would cause this area to become flooded with more troubles than the old wolf desired. But that was a way of life, and she pranced up to the alpha with confidence that could not be denied. Her muzzle reached out, touching his cheek with a hint of a lick in sympathetic greeting.
"Nightbane, you look dashing today as always! My dear boy," Crooning to the wolf who managed never to crack a smile, Chiyo could not have resisted in a million years. However, she had never been quite reprimanded to the point where she assumed she would feel the need to back off. Shining gold eyes peered up at him, then dropped away respectfully as she looked at the ground. Oh, was this not where she was supposed to be walking? "Well who knows! Am I off track, or am I exactly where I wanted to be? I guess it depends."
Dramatic head whipped up, looking somewhere above his ears as she surveyed the sinking sky thoughtfully. "I found some strong, richly handsome beast to guide this poor old crone to wherever he thinks best, didn't I?" Voice purred with amusement, her tail curving in delight as she wagged it loose behind her, pleased with her words. She worried for a moment that perhaps she had stumbled too far, but her head shook. No, she had been out scouting what had recently sprouted, filing it away in her mind for the intended uses. While she was losing her mind, slowly, the knowledge still bounced around shamelessly.
"Ugh..." The female sighed, dropping her shoulders. "If I was four years younger, Atervis, I would have scooped you up and gnawed on you like a bone happily. You know that don't you?" Blunt words rolled off her tongue, and she offered him a delighted look. Oh yes, she had a strong sense of humor, all right. It seemed a bit intense to be saying things to such a brooding male. "Were you going somewhere, dearie?" Her head turned, peering towards whatever bluntness she assumed he was headed for.
"What a treat! We can go together!" Laughter filled the air, harsher than it had been in her youth. The salt and peppered female twisted her head faintly, staring at the trees as if they moved. Then the she wolf straightened herself contently, and she offered a hint of a wolfish grin. Just what he wanted, her company. "Goodness knows, you need a strong lady at your side, and by gosh if you don't hurry up, what will you do when I'm gone!"

a t e r v i s Honest to God I'll break your heart Tear you to pieces and rip you apart. For as long as Atervis had been breathing, he'd always been a terribly un-expressive creature. With a coat as black as night and a brooding gaze often comparable to the color of blood, he wasn't particularly a friendly site either, and his general scowl probably did little to add to that. Though he could hardly recall it now, moments of whispers among his first pack probably attributed to the young blood isolating himself from other pups his own age, and Atervis just typically stuck to his own shadow. He'd only stuck around the pack and his parents long enough to learn to hunt, before he dismissed himself, not feeling a particular attachment to wolves that murmured when they thought he couldn't hear. Of course, none of this stemmed toward self-pity, and Atervis would bare wide fangs at any wolf whom looked down on him with such a feeling.
It didn't change the facts though; despite the fact that the events against the Shadepaw was the largest and the bloodiest of Atervis' history, there was only so much whispering and rumors of your own flesh and blood being of demon make until your own conscience started to question itself. As a whelp he'd been so prone to anger and violence, hearing people talk poorly of him. His mother. People would talk though, a bitch wanders back into the pack, pregnant with pups of an unknown, inevitably goes into premature labor and only three of the seven pups survive. One would eventually succumb to sickness, and one would open eyes of crimson red. Of course they would gossip about the temper that the pup harbored, the blood thirst and violence that surfaced with rage. All of that would lead to him withdrawing from others, leaving the pack behind and swearing up and down he'd find a place to live out his days alone.
He almost barked a dry laugh at the thought, though that too would have been out of character for him. What a cruel turn of events, accepting that one, frail soul into his life, the raise and cherish as his own, only to have her ripped from him at the jaws of some self-proclaimed king. And like a coward, Atervis had withdrawn again. Pulled back and lurked in the back of his den like some kind of frenzied animal that had given up entirely. And it was that same, crooked voice that raked his ears now that had snapped him out of it before. It was the same muzzle that touched his cheek with the same sympathetic greeting. For a second he'd initially taken it as pity. But then, like now, he'd realized it was far from that. It was understanding, soon the be followed by—
There it was. The male's ear twitched, flicking back and then forward again, at the sound of some far of howl, something soft and non-urgent, more than likely was one of the Seekers reporting back on a find— or lack there of, if he was making such a noise. His ease departed though as she spoke, and the space between his eyes creased just slightly at his earned name. Nightbane. The monster born from the parted souls of Sharktooth Isle. After all, none had seen him before that point. He'd gone unnoticed until Chiyo had found him, aside from Prier, rest her soul.
"Atervis." He corrected shortly. Names meant nothing to her. No matter how much he'd correct the elder, she'd prattle on and resume calling him by the handle he'd come to earn. He could remember the hoots of laughter from the pack when the first warped tale of 'Nightbane' had returned to the island. Cilka had been the one to bring that legend to them, and few other wolves had braved the waters for the sake of seeing if the legends were true. Granted, Atervis was just another wolf— flesh, blood and fur. And teeth. And a whole lot of muscle, but what brute wasn't? So what if he was a bit larger than the norm? He blinked passively as the woman spiraled into her chattering again. When she felt the need to fall back onto the usual topic of Atervis' romantic status, he felt his eyes roll out of instinct. ".... As you see fit to remind me every day, Chiyo." He responded, though it was not nearly as exasperated as it could have been. Of course, when she'd first started in on this, he'd cringed. Visibly.
"Aye." It seemed for a moment like he might not enlighten her on the details of his destination, almost as if he knew she was going to invite herself along. But Atervis was not so fed up with the old crone to desert her, and in fact, a shred of him might have actually enjoyed Chiyo's company. "The Seekers should be returning soon with the morning catch." Initially, it had been weird for him to accept that it was normal for other wolves to carry out the hunt and supply food to the pack as a whole, rather than each wolf fending for himself. Granted, he'd assumed there were those that couldn't fend for themselves, but in the end, Atervis' pride for doing his own hunts gave out and he established set rankings to carry out the task so that he could supply his focus on the back and ensuring the territory was controlled and secure. Of course, he did make habit of joining the Seekers and the Beta on their hunts every few nights or so. "It was my intention to take part in this morning's feast. I'd invite you to join me, but I suppose you decided on whether or not you were going the moment I led onto where I was going." He added rather bluntly, though he had no inklings of it hurting Chiyo's feelings— the two shared a rather thick bluntness when it came to words.
Of course, Chiyo didn't disappoint. She bubbled immediately and accepted what she'd taken as a clear invitation. Really, Atervis didn't have to fluff or sugar-coat anything with the woman, it made his life a bit easier. Large paws shifted as his larger frame twisted and turned to lead the way, assuming she'd fall into step beside him. His pace was measured to support her own slower one, though the rest of his posture and attention remained normal. No sooner had the pace started up back toward the feeding thicket, she'd set back in on him finding a woman. This time the Alpha did allow a hiss of a sigh to escape his teeth, closing his eyes briefly. As usual, it was going to be a long walk.

Chiyo
Eight years was a long time to live for a she wolf. It meant that she had seen things that could only be fathomed by the barely lucid. Oh, things had changed and madness had overtaken him brutal ways, and tails swished from one side to the other. It bothered the old she wolf that she was lost in a world where she could not make her own choices. By the time she had reached her adulthood, she had conformed effortlessly to the ruling and the intent of the land. Oh, she was the type who truly believed in the value of a male leader above all else, a pretty little female trotting along at the side of the male. The harsh decisions in life, in pack life, left a scar that could not be denied.
So it only made sense to continue on with her head lifted high, and see fit that her proud Alpha found someone well suited for him. Someone that would make him remember that not all the world was evil. His dismissive nature about the matter was all the bigger concern. It meant that he did not look at himself as she looked at him and that was simply unacceptable. Honestly, there was a reason whatever fates held on her that she had lived this long. The strength and power of her Nightbane proved just that. If no one was around to look after him, she feared for him. That was something deep within her that could not be escaped.
Ears rolled back against her head lightly at his apt words, and she strolled at his side without a second thought. Her body bumped against his casually while the pair walked, and her delighted features seemed intent on his displeasure. Oh, it bothered her that she was not settling down the way that was expected, and her nose wrinkled with a show of dispassion. "Nightbane," Her words were tolerant of him, speaking to him as if he were nothing more than her child. Her heart clenched at the notion, "You are a handsome beast - your eyes would leave ladies quivering in your wake if you were trapped on this begotten island."
Chiyo offered the male a long bat of her eyes, cackling merrily as she strode along side him. A meal, how charming! Perhaps she could go back to teaching him manners. When had the last time been that they had a good lesson? Heavens knew, males needed lessons like they needed a swift nip in the flanks."Look at all you have going for yourself, you're a hole of ravaging lust to be plunged into..." Voice trailed off, uttering a wistful sigh.
"My Artie was a wondrous lover." Sudden voice was saddened with the reminder, "Useless at hunting, at thinking... But blesss my soul and rub my nose in a field of daisies; the things he did with his tongue!" Had her voice raised, did she seem overly delighted with the memories. The warmth shined in her eyes, and she offered another sigh that could not be denied. Then with a hurried glance at her Alpha, the old crone giggled. "With his romantic words, of course! That's what I meant..."
"You're my favourite male alive now, Nightbane. You're the only one I can focus myself on," Words were no-nonsense this time around, even as the female tipped her head toward the sky. Ah, an evening meal and the discussion of love and lust. It was a needed concept, and the island seemed completely lacking of it. "My little wolf is too afraid to go out into the real world and find herself a mate just yet, sweet Adria." The words were brisk as she placed the reminder in his ears, casting her eyes over the profile of the male that was beside her.
"That means I need little monsters out of your breeding before I die. Or else I'll die wondering if you all just remained celibate on this little island and all my nagging was for naught." Disappointment rung in her voice with the concept, but she shrugged her shoulders. It would happen, she carried confidence. Little red eyed wolf pups, yes. They would come out and they would follow their brave and loyal father, they would taste the world in all its glory. "And if you dislike the pups, we can sacrifice them in some sort of ritual to give me a longer life, and then you can hop back on the bunny ride and attempt a second litter."

Adria had not planed on running into anyone on her little outing out. Like the general lonely wolf she was she liked getting away from it all occasionally. Then it again it might just be horrible that she was being left only to her own guilty conscious. It would eat at her every time she tried to push her thoughts away. In someways it's surprising she could keep herself up this long. Many wolves have been just as broken as her, but they have never able to pick their lives up again. The small wolf with her striking amber eyes didn't understand much in this life. All she could feel was the guilt and maybe even that fear that wouldn't leave her. She was almost always on the edge, yet her thoughts kept her sane in some odd way. Despite this she didn't feel quite as lost as she did over the years as a pup. Being traumatized really didn't hit home till she was home. Voices pulled her from her deep thoughts. Her hair was spiked up as she stood completely still. You could see the fear flashing through her eyes just as quickly as a defensive growl formed. Of course when the scents traveled to her nose everything went down. Her face went from fearful to foolish. Of course there wouldn't be a threat here anymore. The hair on her back slowly went down as the voices were matched to the familiar faces of the Atervis and Chyio. She lowered her gaze to the ground, and dipped her head in her silent form of 'hello'. Despite her usual quietness, she said, "Sorry I thou-" Adria trailed off and chose not to finish her sentence. She lifted her head, and looked at the two wolves in front of her. ooc: I wasn't sure how to stuff Adria in here, but finally I did!

a t e r v i s Honest to God I'll break your heart Tear you to pieces and rip you apart. Atervis' massive form swayed with the impact of the elder wolf, paws crossing briefly as his balance remained unfazed. There was a split second of humor behind red hues, though it was not shared in the expression on his face. His ear just barely twitched as she, yet again, referred to him as the monster from so many horror stories back on the mainland. He didn't miss the way her tone took what he understood to be a condescending edge, one a parent often took with a child. He didn't find this strange in the slightest, but rather braced himself for a revisit of the previous subject; his bachelor status.
He was right to brace himself, apparently. A snort took to his nostrils, the subject of her words flickering to her somewhat indignantly, though even he wasn't sure his heart was in the look. And how could it be when she was batting her eyes before cackling like the senile old bat that she was. Atervis almost sighed, turning his gaze forward again.— Oh, for the old god's sake, she was still pushing on, apparently intent on visiting every bold bulletin point on the list of 'things you don't want to hear out of an old woman's mouth'. He'd never had the pleasure of meeting Artie, but sometimes he wondered how the man put up with her. Or had she been different in her youth? Was the old wolf rolling in his final resting place somewhere, being the subject of Chiyo's lustful chatter?
Granted, Atervis had always extended Chiyo the courtesy of listening to her stories of Artie and their time together. Sure, some of them made his skin crawl— like this one— but he'd never denied her the pair of listening ears when she was reminiscing on about her lost loved one. He was no fool, he suspected Chiyo's bubbly pestering was a facade for the loneliness left by the passing of Artie, though he could have just been reading too far into it now.
"I suspected as much." Atervis responded shortly, though there was a certain volume of sarcasm in the black wolf's tone. He didn't miss the comment that followed, about being her favorite, and it did something strange to the pit of his chest, there was a brief, uncomfortable tightening, followed abruptly by a cold chill. It had nothing to do with Chiyo, but more of the prospect of anyone being closer than they needed to be. There were a number of wolves that had come equipped to Stormbourne that had their own quirks and ways of slipping past that barrier he was so hell-bent on keeping in tact. Like Chiyo. And her being all around annoying at all times.
"Speak and you shall receive." Atervis observed wryly, though he deliberately didn't clarify on what he was speaking of, though he was looking off ahead as they rounded a particularly thick set of brush, crimson hues finding the frame of the pre-mentioned Adria with ease. Her scent had caught around the same time Chiyo had brought her up, and the black furred male paused in his step briefly as Adria swept her head down low. He assumed this as a greeting, nodding his head just slightly, though it kept it's raised place. His ear twitched faintly as the female meekly spoke and then trailed off, something he didn't find surprising with her in the slightest. He noted the uncoiling tension in her frame and stared for a moment longer, as if waiting for her to finish her sentence. ".... You thought...?" He pressed, his voice as gruff as usual, despite his attempt to be gentler toward the already timid female.

Chiyo
Her smile was victorious, although she would never allow Nightbane to give in so easily. Yet, he was treating her softer, there was that shine to his eyes that he thought he hid so well. It caused her to look softer for a moment, gazing at the male adoringly, although making sure his head was turned away when she did it. Ah, if only he knew how much she valued those moments when he finally realized the world was not such a bad place. Those seconds where she could give him something invaluable.
The treasure that she most assuredly was in his life did not go unnoticed. Bluntly, she leaned up and licked behind his ear boldly, before her golden eyes darted forward and she lapsed into momentary silence while he processed her ability to enslave him. Honestly, it was a wonder how he had resisted even a little bit over the years. She was a remarkable she wolf, and no one could ever handle Chiyo full blast, or resist her. It was hard on the heart to be torn so fruitlessly.
Head snapped rather fast for the old female though at the announcement of another, and her laughter chimed in the cool air as her tail swished. Ah, it was like her birthday! Her little would have been daughter appeared out of thin, crispy are, and she preened. "Adria! Stop your slouching, beauty, you're in front of Nightbane!" Words bubbled out of her mouth, snapping haughtily.
"He won't eat you, he wouldn't have given you to me if he planned to do that." The female flicked her tail, brushing proudly by her beloved Alpha and straight to the girl. Circling around her, she stopped at the girl's flanks, and attempted to head butt her from behind forward. "Speak up now, love! He's not so scary - he's handsome and capable." Words were lustily, laughing as her eyes glinted while she eyed the male in question.
"Nightbane is a fierce warrior, he deserves respect - but absolutely no cowering. He is a hero," Reverent words dropped from her mouth, and she struggled to take her focus. What in the world was she even thinking, of course she should have been teaching Adria to work better on these things. Air rattled in her lungs, and she fought the urge to hyperventilate. Or scream. Nightbane was everything - Adria was a fearful little thing, but heavens, she was in front of the male who was beyond noble. Her eyes shined proudly, staring at Atervis like it was no one's concern.
"He's the reason we survive, dear one. I've told you that before."

Adria wondered why she hadn't turned tail and walked away. It wasn't just awkward that she had ran into Artevis, but he was also here with Chiyo. Adria knew most of all the number one male Chiyo had her eye on. She wasn't planning on responding with her voice again. It was obvious though that Artevis wanted her to finish what she was planning on saying. She couldn't contain herself and rolled her eyes. The first few words out of Chiyo's mouth made her cringe as if she was expecting them. In response she raised her head higher, so that she was at her usual height. Not listening to Chiyo seemed like a bad thing to the timid wolf, and she knew it would be even worse if the alpha was around. Adria watched Chiyo warily as the old wolf wandered towards her flank. Just as soon as Adria turned to look Chiyo had her moving forward closer towards the alpha. Alarm shot through her eyes. She liked it at her safe distance. She sat down trying to control the sudden urge to shake. It wasn't fear of the alpha that had her, but instead the nervousness of having Chiyo around to critique her every move. She kept her straight posture as her eyes turned towards the male in front of her. His gruff voice didn't even make her flinch. She understood that he was just as bad as her at expressing things. Even if Chiyo was extreme about it, she is right. If it wasn't for this alpha then where would she be now. Now she had to talk. "I thought you were something else. It's really nothing. I'm sorry for interrupting your walk, Alpha," she replied quietly to the male in front of her. Her words were formal, and any thought of saying his real name never went through her mind. She hoped that Chiyo would be happily satisfied with what she had said, and maybe she wouldn't have to speak again She turned her eyes quickly to Chiyo. Those amber eyes showed desperation to be saved if a conversation was going to be sparked. She backed up a little to stand beside Chiyo. No matter how scary or annoying Chiyo could be, Adria respected her. Maybe without her this little mouse wouldn't have gone out the hole. Whatever Chiyo had done for Adria it caused her to let a little more sass out. This could easily explain the eye roll from earlier.
