History:
Winter Marrow does not have a history yet. This is a new pack, arising from the fanatic ideals of a particularly eccentric wolf. The goals of this pack is to gather everyone who either didn't belong in the normal life of wolves or want to achieve something greater.A pack who doesn't rely on its name to be a force, but the individuals within it. For those who want to be a part of history, this is not the pack for you. The wolves in this pack making a present. History is for the dead.
~~~
General Info:
This is not your typical pack. This pack is essentially for mercenaries, with money being replaced with reputation and individual wants. Those with great skills and abilities who want to be well known throughout the island for their capabilities. The reason it is a pack because the prosperity of a collective name in a concentrated group will go much farther than an individual trying to seek fame on his own.Plus, with an active and evolving system, soon the pack will be able to make wolves stronger and better in general. (All thanks to Kodiak, of course). However there will be an establishment of rules that all the members are expected to follow and ranks that are associated with them.
What is unique about this pack is that the members can offer services and training to other wolves. The individual member can decide whether or not they want to do this however, and for what "price" if there is one. The price is usually a food item, but if there are preferences, then they could vary from wolf to wolf.
Ranking
Alphas
The leader of the pack, their mate, and their pups. Although the pups are counted as Alpha, they do not hold the authority of Alpha even when adults. In the death of the Alpha, their rank is passed to their mate, then children by ranking of the mother, then to the betas. The Role of the Alpha is an important one. He (or she), alongside the Betas will choose what to do with missions that directly involve them in war between other packs. The Alpha is also in charge of holding festivals when times are well and competitions when things are not going so well.
Alphas: *Kodiak
Betas
Betas are the most fit individuals in their specific categories. Their mates and pups do not inherit their position, rather they select apprentices (occasionally referred to as deltas, but more often just called apprentices or whatever their beta wishes to call them). Their apprentices can be challenged by the Alpha, but the Beta position itself is honored and is cannot. That being said, it is a position not given lightly. Contrarily, their position can be challenged by an individual of lower rank during the competitions. While the beta gets to chose the competition, the Alpha and the entire family (with the exception of very young pups) will decide the winner, so its best to stay on his good side in the case of a tie. As mentioned before, the Betas will hold meetings with the Alpha over wartime affairs. They also the law enforcers of their groupings and decide punishments fit for the breaking of certain rules. They take the responsibilities of their group as a whole, both reward and punishment. They are tasked to punishing members who are breaking rules. They banish major rule breakers and establish individual rules to guide their specific group.
The Hunter beta is the most respected position right under Alpha because of their dedication to the pack and that they are challenged to face one of the strongest animals in Somerset; the bison. Because of their bravery and loyalty to a pack that does not require it, they are the next in line to be alpha and, in a situation where Alpha is not present, will hold authority over the other betas and lead the hunts. Although they are next in position and hold authority over the betas when the Alpha is absent, they are not immune to having their position challenged in competitions and will be judged equally among the betas during war meetings.
The Warrior beta is typically a powerful, sturdy wolf who does well during the time of war. He separates himself from the other brutes in the fact that he is also a good tactician and is expected to be the commanding warrior during a time of war. Outside of wartime they, along with their unit, are expected to take on immediate threats such as invading predators and unidentified wolves.
The Sage beta is arguably the most intelligent member of the pack. They are responsible for monitoring the conditions of the pack (such as how the change of seasons is effecting them) the condition of the zeta (thus, being the beta for them as well), and the honor of watching over the Alpha's family during a crisis. They are expected to have started as a healer, therefore have expansive remedy knowledge and be able to tend to sick gammas, betas, and even alphas if the time is needed.
The Rouge beta is most in touch with the outside world. They lead the wolves who are more interested in working in shadows like spies and assassins. When members of their pack are on scouting duty, they are the one that the members will report to. The rouge beta is usually charged with spreading the word of the pack otherwise. During a crisis, they are expected to fight alongside the warrior beta as well.
The gamma are the teachers of the groups. They work alongside the betas of their categories during a time of need, but otherwise they live a pretty cushy lifestyle. They have an immunity to banishment and are allowed to teach their students in any way they wish, so long as they are taking on pupils and abiding by the pack rules. They can choose the pupil among the students who they feel are most fit in their group to present to the beta as potential deltas, but the ultimate decision is up to the beta. The Gamma will also have individual jobs that they can bring their favorite students along with them to do. When a gamma who isn't a hunter wishes to leave the pack, they must speak to their beta.
Hunters are pretty self explanatory. They are charged with hunting alongside the lead hunter during important hunts and creating a band to do mini hunts. Once again, this is a respected rank because the members of this rank are permanent and are dedicated to the pack as a whole. Because of the cold climate, they become particularly busy during fall. The meat stores well in winter and they are tasked with the hoarding of plenty of it to sustain those who cannot hunt under such harsh conditions. This event is called The Great Hunt and will last until the first real signs of winter. When successful, the beta and gamma participants are celebrated with a festival. Lead of Providers guide the hunter gamma.
Fighters are generally active recruiting wolves who take on violent missions involving the injury or threatening of another wolf, fighting off animals that threaten the customer, or the attack on a group of wolves. They are expected to actively recruit, because otherwise their job would seem too risky to take on. Undecided pups will be made into fighters. When they are not out on missions or teaching,they stay within a rouge's reach in case of an emergency. They are a first response to situations and the defense of the pack. They are led by the lead of warriors.
Healers have incredible knowledge of remedies to sicknesses and injury treatment and watching over the elders or those who are no longer capable. They can offer their healing services, including loners and other wolves outside of the pack. They also watch over the pups of other gammas and epsilon when they cannot. Because the healers mostly stay within the pack, they help with the arrangement of festivals when necessary. They are guided by the lead of sages.
Scouts are typically sneaky, lightfooted wolves who teeter between safe and dangerous jobs. They offer services such as spying,search and rescue, and escort missions, but the more brave ones will take on assassination missions. However, the last could be dangerous not only because of the danger of failed attempts, but it infringes on their leader, the lead of rogue's role. Regardless, they learn a form of combat for emergency situations to be effective at what they do. They greet potential customer's at the borders of the territory and escort them to the wolf they request or a wolf who provides their service. If they see a danger in or near the pack's territory as they patrol, they report to the league of rogues and nearby fighters. During dire times of war, they will fight alongside them.
Zetas are the pups, elders, and unwell of the pack. They are usually cared for by healers, but it really depends on their ranking on their position. A pup of an epsilon, for example, would be treated as the same as the epsilon itself. A retired beta would hold all the respect and honor they did when they were active. The only thing that is consistent is that they hold no real political powers within the pack, but are to be treated no with malicious intent under any circumstances, even omega-related ones.
Pups:
omegas are those who have done something that reflected negatively on the pack, its members, or their relationship with their allies in some way. A few ways a wolf becomes an omega is if:
1.They left the pack in bad standing and are seeking reentry.
2.They had given up on training but have returned for whatever reason.
3.They have broken one of the major rules,or frequently break the minor, but were not exiled.
4.Their actions directly led to the death or severe injury of a superior and/or the family.
5.They are a pack member who took a payment and failed to complete a task.
6.They are a prisoner of war.
7.They are a customer who did not pay their payment and was captured.
The sentencing of an omega can be permanent or temporary depending on the situation. The punishment can also vary from hostile treatment to being the pawn of greater events,even those leading to death.
Epsilon
Epsilon are the trainee's of the group. They can try to provide a service, but will probably be overshadowed by the gammas. They can be epsilon by birth, recruited into the pack, loners who are looking to be trained, or even members of an allied pack looking for training. That being said, they are generally free to go as they please, but are not respected or trusted as much as the higher ranks in return. Other than the participants of the Great Hunt, these members make up most of the interior missions of the pack when they aren't being trained. The deltas are among this group. They are not allowed to move up to gamma because they require special discipline. When epsilon are permanently no longer in a condition in which they can continue doing their job, but are healthy enough to survive, they have to chose whether they want to "permanently" become an epsilon and be an assistant to a gamma (usually tasked to help healers find ingredients) or if they would like to leave the pack without any penalties in reputation or treatment.
~~~Rules
Bone Rules (important):
1.Respect the Alpha and their wishes. Any adjustment to the rules is deemed necessary once they get involved. Opposition to this run the risk of exile or becoming an omega.
2.Betas are not to be challenged outside of competition days. Breaking of this rule is to be dealt with by the beta. If the beta is injured or killed by the transgressor, exile or death will be the consequence.
3.Gammas are only able to be challenged by normal epsilon. Deltas, pups, and omegas cannot challenge gammas. Breaking of this rule can be dealt with by the gamma or a beta.
4.Epsilon of allied packs, customers, and welcomed guests are not to be critically injured or killed in any way even if they are deranked to omegas. The consequences range from being made into an omega,death or exile, along with the punishment of the beta overseeing the transgressor.
5.Alpha and Zeta eat first, followed by the hunters and beta, gamma and epsilon, and finally omega. Transgressors will derank to omega or be exiled if already omega.
6.Betas are restricted to one mate at a time. Otherwise, polygamous relationships are allowed. Betas who break the rules run the risk of their mates deranking to omega and making a competition necessary.
7.Betas are expected to remain the best at what they do. If the Alpha feels they are no longer the most competent, they will hold a competition for the role. Betas must participate. Failure to do so (unless excused by the Alpha) will immediately resort to the deranking to omega.
8.Each member is permitted one free litter. Additional litters must be discussed with the Alpha. Litters between packs must also be discussed with the Alpha. Breaking of the rules will result in the deranking to omega or the exile of the entire family.
9.All betas and gamma hunter members are permanent members to the pack. Leaving will result in an automatic exile. Rejoiners will start as omegas.
10. Unjustified killing a fellow pack member who is not an omega will result in deranking to omega AND the application of both punishments for the killer and victims' Beta's rules. If there are no rules listed for killing a packmate by both betas, then the only punishment will be an omega. An omega killing a higher member will be sentenced to death.
11.Scattered throughout the pack lands are skull totems created by the current Alpha, Kodiak. Vandalism and purposeful destruction of them will not be tolerated. Just...don't do it ok?
12.Betas are allowed to make individual rules to guide their specific grouping so long as they concede with the bone rules and are relative to the group they oversee. All rules created by betas must be reviewed by the Alpha. They are not allowed to banish gammas or sentence any wolf to death for the breaking of their individual rules unless permitted.

{Don't worry too much about the services and teacher-student aspect of the roleplay. Its really there just to bring a twist to conventional packs and more roleplay opportunities for those who want it.It can simply be implied that your wolf does it and doesn't have to be roleplayed out. I would appreciate those trying to become a beta to at least consider the teacher-student/ service roleplays though. Speaking of which, the position for beta is only open for those who I have roleplayed with before. Your joining thread counts, but it can also be a thread with any of your wolves with any of mine. Since the role has a lot of weight to it, I would like to get to know those who are taking it on.Any other recruitment/services that weren't explicitly made by an rper does not have to be, but they will have to make an appearance in any pack gathering thread if they want to rank up.}

About your Alpha
Mother:Status unknown
Father:Status unknown.Assumed dead.
Siblings:*Anya,female,deceased. *Tanto,male,deceased. *Euric, male, deceased.
Kodiak would be defined as a chaotic neutral. He does things out of selfish interest, but not to purposefully harm others. He is a very relaxed Alpha, but also very involved in his pack life.He doesn't discriminate against various moralities and feels that anyone from any alignment can join his pack. Kodiak loves drama, humor, and chaos. It brings an interesting blend to pack life, so diversity is very much encouraged and openly expressing discontent is allowed.But when it comes to his pack, he demands all conflicts to be resolved. Rather than giving strict, uncompromising lists of rules, he leaves the way of life to be determined by the wolf, only limited by the beta's rules. He feels that this kind of ruling will better unite the pack than to have rules placed over the entire pack without reason,compromise, and/or flexibility.As far as attitude goes, he seems like friendly, fun wolf rather than an uptight alpha. However, he does have a degree of spontaneousness; he is one to go from one to ten, then back down to one in a fleeing moment. Being a rouge most of his life has made it so its a little hard to gain his trust, but he is open to speak to any member of the pack when he isn't busy, regardless of rank or history.

About your Alpha
Mother:Status unknown
Father:Status unknown.Assumed dead.
Siblings:*Anya,female,deceased. *Tanto,male,deceased. *Euric, male, deceased.
Kodiak never really knew his father. He was assumed to be eaten by his mother, who had "abandoned the new ideals to continue a more practical,survivalist lifestyle". And looking back, he didn't learn much about his mother either. She was a young, inexperienced mother who was both too stubborn and crazy to listen to advice and get help and too proud to admit that she was clueless. She at least stuck around long enough to ween them. When she found that even when they were done suckling, wolf pups were too young and weak to do much on their own, she abandoned them to continue with her own lifestyle.
Too slow and clumsy to hunt, the future was looking bleak for the orphan siblings, but they stuck together regardless.
Anya was the first to break this rule. Tanto had grown especially weak and was barely able to walk. She took the liberty of finishing him off. While she was at it, she made a quick snack of her brother's corpse. Anya made no effort to be sneaky and quickly confessed to her brothers. Appalled, Euric convinced Kodiak to team up with him to kill her. The two refused to speak of the incident and slept in what was left of their den in silence, however curiosity got the best of Kodiak. He snuck past his slumbering brother to have a taste for himself and was too hungry to stop himself, completely devouring the corpse of his sister. Days had passed before Euric found out. Enraged by the discovery, Euric viciously attacked Kodiak without warning, but Kodiak eventually got the upper hand and beat him, accidentally killing him.
Now Kodiak was alone in this world, and he had no choice but to fight with every fiber of his being. His hunting skills were slow and clumsy at best and he failed more than he succeeded at first, meaning he would spend an entire day just trying to catch a small meal so he could get by. Because of his size and solidity, he found it much easier to just spar and steal the prey of some other animals or even kill and eat them.
Eventually, he became comfortable and successful in his new lifestyle. At first, he continued his cannibalistic ways, but now that he is more self-sufficient, he has abandoned them. He lives a comfy lifestyle in a den in the higher portion of the mountain; the same den he has always lived in. He could continue his solitary lifestyle for quite some time,but that wouldn't be any fun, would it?
