-ROCK RIVER DELTA–
LORE
Believed to have been carved the by the gods themselves, Rock River Delta is a sight to behold. Shaped by the ancient seas, it is one of the first settlements of wolves. Or so it is believed by the descendants of the presiding pack. It is said that many years ago there was a nomadic pack sent to the shores after a treacherous journey. Among these wolves was a prodigious young warrior named Cassius. Strong willed and powerful, he seemed to be sent by the gods themselves to claim the land for himself. His youth made most dubious of his rule and many didn't believe his word of the deities above. He claimed to have been touched by the deities and sent to take as much land as he could. The seas seemed to part and lead him to the cliffsides. He and two followers crossed the shores and found the luxurious delta. It was isolated and full of lush greenery. Perfect for a small pack to grow and prosper.
Upon arrival to the delta, Cassius and his followers were greeted by a striking figure. A she wolf of glistening silver fur waited in the surrounding forests. She approached them with a polite smile and offered to help them settle in. Her name was Fionna and she was as skilled a huntress as she was beautiful. Cassius was immediately enamored by the beautiful she wolf. He would offer her gifts to win her affection and soon both fell madly in love. As the pack began to grow, many had come to know the pair as the goddess of the moon and her guardian. Together they raised a family and the pack expanded into a glorious paradise that welcomed the weariest of travelers. Only the bravest souls tread here and should they pass the treacherous waters, they would be granted a warm welcome and honor of a hero's glory should they provide for the pack in some way. Cassius himself was given such glory when he fell in battle, guarding Fionna from harm. It was said her tears brought the rains and waves that carved the steep cliffs and hills that now reside within the land. Cassius's soul was welcomed to the god's realm with a glorious feast of meats and berries. He had died with honor and praises were song for centuries to come.
Many attest that Fionna was no mere mortal wolf. She was said to truly be a goddess. Borne of the moon itself and gifted by the gods to Cassius for his hard work. Though if you choose to believe this is so. Tales have twisted from mouth to mouth, who could really say if she truly was immortal or not. All that is known is that the great pack of the cliff side rose to power with a glorious warrior who will live on in the greatest reaches of history. The one that was truly certain, the moon goddess and her guardian, the sun, were madly in love and it was one of the greatest love stories ever told. It had all begun with a divine task and a treacherous journey.
HISTORY
Eons have passed and the Farrin clan has become sole ruler of the Rock River Delta. Descendants of Cassius himself, Hektor Farrin was born and raised within the Delta. He ruled much the same as his ancestor. Strong and silent, Hektor was beloved by his pack. He believed in the deities and from them he was sent specialists known as Oracles to speak their wisdom. Hektor was a glorious leader who trained warriors to keep control of the land. They were known for their skills and power, never backing down from a challenge. Hektor had two loves in his life. His beautiful mate and the glory of battle. Battle worn and confident, Hektor believed he too was blessed with the same honor as Cassius. He was swift and intelligent, taking in many youths and training them for battle. Though a time had come when his own mate was with litter. It was a joyous occasion. The pack had relished in the celebration of youth, feasting and celebrating until the dawn. Though it was not to be. For she had only given birth to one pup. Though healthy and bearing the golden fur of Cassius himself, stress overtook the female unlike anything the pack had seen.
She refused to feed her pup. Hektor having to enlist a surrogate as his mate's health declined. She appeared less and less lucid as the days went on. A madness seemed to befall her, leading her to go into hysterics. She refused her mate's affection and was driven to the woods. Hallucinations plagued her and a feral mania forced her to desert the pack and her beloved mate. Weakened with guilt and grief, Hektor did what he could to raise his son. Whom he had dubbed, Magnus. Though upon his son's second year, he succumbed to a broken heart. That was what the elders said, the truth being his health had regressed so much that he just couldn't go any further. Magnus took over his father's rule, keeping the traditions alive. His father would be welcome to the realm of the god's. His many battles earning him the hero's glory. Magnus kept the pack together, taking a mate not long after ascending to his reign. They were blessed with a litter of three, the oldest being Aspyn.
The Farrin clan would have a new ruler, but instead of a male as it was tradition, this one would be female. Outrage echoed through the ranks. Protests rang out that a female could not lead without a mate. Magnus heard none of this and encouraged his daughter. Refusing any other apprentice but her. The way of life had shifted just like the tides below. A new era was beginning. Though females were coveted within the pack, years of change had made it hard to accept a female as sole ruler. Regardless of her breeding, the pack stood divided. Many left the pack as a last resort, but Aryn was determined to make things the same way as it was in the past. Where females were just as equal as the males. Females would be treated as highly as Fionna. The myth having been twisted and molded to suit the needs of males, she was destined to make sure the truth was known. The truth she and her grandfather knew.
LIFE
A pack that was once male dominated is slowly become equal among both genders. However there is a clear rift between those who founded the pack and those who are new. A female ruler with no mate to call on, was simply unheard of. Though the ancient traditions still stand. Summer and Winter Solstices are held yearly with a great hunt and feast that lasts well into the dawn. Designed to keep morale and trust within the pack. Other ceremonies include the celebration of life and eternity. These involve the birth of pups within the pack and the joining of mates.
Deities rule overall within the pack. Wolves who believe to hear their teachings are seen to be on par with the alphas. They are the voice of the pack, directing their every move. Through suggestion of course. Alphas have the final say on any situation. The next in charge is the warrior class. The very backbone and foundation of Rock River Delta. They preserve security and strength within the ranks. Highly respected, they see to every wish the alpha and oracles bestow. The lowest rank is that of the prisoners and the youth class. The youth are no less important, but because they lack rank until the age of one. There is a ritual all youth must go through upon the age of one. They are sent into the forests alone to forage for themselves. A test of will and survival. They are tasked with finding one of three items: the bones of any animal, the feature of a bird of prey, or a rock from the lowest point of the land. This would mean climbing the same cliffs their ancestors did to return to their home. Each item represents a skill the youth is predestined to. The bones prove courage, the feature proves agility, and the rock proves resolution and wisdom. Depending on the item which is presented to the Alpha, they are then sorted into one of the three classes.
This is however only mandatory for the youth born within the pack. Outsiders are free to choose their own paths within the pack. These must be consulted with the pack Alpha first of course.
